Lecompte- Wed.- May 31

On Wed. (5/31/06) James, Travis and I drove up to Lecompte. We hit the two stations and found about 10 Ox beetles (eight M/two F). There was a HUGE male found at about the half-way point between the two spots. James collected a longhorn beetle. We also found a couple of grapevine beetles and two female stag beetles, L. elephus I think. One female seemed to have heat damage and was not walking well. The other is fine. We made it to the second station at almost the exact moment that they were turning off the outside lights. The three of us got out and were able to snatch up Ox beetles before they left. We also found one, dead dichotomius carolinus in "the corral".

Addendum! Here's an image of the longhorn beetle (awaiting specific identification...) and............
